Exploratory Development on Advanced Fluids and Lubricants in Extreme Environments by Mechanical Characterization.

Abstract

Six shear/thermal stability pump loop evaluations were continued in the high-temperature/hydraulic circuit. One series of three evaluations was conducted with the phosphate ester fluid MLO-71-37 at 275F for 32.5 hr, at 300F for 50 hr and at 350F for 13.1 hr. The silicate ester MLO-71-45 was studied in the other series of three evaluations at 300F for 50 hr, 350F for 50 hr, and 400 F for 50 hr. Pressure-viscosity information for the three fluids O-64-2 (MIL-L-23699), 0-66-25 (MIL-L-7808), and Krytox 143AC (MLO-71-6) was generated and is reported at pressures to 165,000 psig and temperatures to 300F.
