UCC-1 Equipment Analysis and Improvement for SSC-3 Terminal.

Abstract

Teletype performance can be improved through modifications and operation of the General Utility Carrier Communication (UCC-1) equipment of the Shipboard Satellite Communications Set (AN/SSC-3 SATCOM). The standard configuration selected for the out-of-band teletype channels should be the 'Reverse' position. Unequal mark-space amplitudes on a linear FM system such as the SSC-3 degrade performance; they should therefore be equalized for in- and out-of-band channels. Frequency doubling and poor filter response, found on the 3995-Hz keyer channel and presumably existing on all SSC-3 terminals, can be corrected by incorporating an RC network modification proposed for all the 3995 keyer filters.
