Design and Development of Impact Instrumentation Package.

Abstract

The report relates the results of the applied research and development of an impact instrumentation package. The program has culminated in the fabrication of two impact instrumentation packages that are intended to measure and record the deceleration forces experienced in the nose and tail fuze wells during the impact of both low-drag and retarded bombs in water or dirt. It is designed to be a reusable instrumentation package capable of surviving the deceleration and shock levels which occur during bomb impact. Laboratory tests have demonstrated that the device complies with the essential characteristics specified in the scope of work. However, the test results are not conclusive and it is, therefore, recommended that final proof of operation and capability be obtained under actual operating conditions. (Author)
