Air Induction Systems for Future Fighters/Interceptors. Phase I. Short Subsonic Diffuser Development. Volume II.

Abstract

A study was made to select a Mach 4.5 Advance Deck Launched Interceptor configuration which would provide the basis for establishing geometric constraints on subsonic diffuser design. Two subsonic diffuser design approaches meeting these geometric constraints were chosen for evaluation in an experimental program. The total pressure recovery and steady state distortion of these subsonic diffuser designs were determined at conditions simulating critical vehicle operating conditions. Subsonic diffuser entrance conditions were simulated with an apparatus designed to duplicate flow conditions at the throat of a two dimensional, mixed compression, supersonic inlet. (Author)
