Ambient Sea Noise: A Review of the Literature

Abstract

Knowledge about ambient sea noise between 10 Hz and 10 kHz is summarized. Information is included on several characteristics of ambient noise (variation of spectrum levels, directionality, and correlative properties) and two sources (surface agitation and rain). Other summaries are recommended that cover the prediction of spectrum levels associated with additional sources (distant shipping, biological, thermal, and seismic). (Author)
