ASM Gimbal IMU Development Program.

Abstract

An Air Force requirement exists for a low-cost inertial midcourse guidance system for tactical weapon delivery. The Raytheon LCP 2, delivered and evaluated under an earlier contract, is a candidate platform for this application. The effort covered by this report concerns further development of the platform inertial measurement unit (IMU) in the areas of cost reduction, design simplification and miniaturization. The report discusses the developmental investigations conducted, provides a detailed description of the new IMU (designated as part of the LCP 3, and includes results of the predelivery acceptance tests. The application of techniques resulting from these investigations will provide significant reductions in the cost of tactical missile guidance systems. (Author)
