Ultra High Resolution Electronic Imaging.

Abstract

The program was concerned with refinement of the design of the ruggedized version of the high-resolution, 4 1/2-inch Return Beam Vidicon (RBV). The principal objectives of the program were (1) increased tube yield, stability, and life through use of a dispenser cathode and (2) increased target 'prepare' potential and speed through gun structural modifications. Other overall program objectives included increased multiplier gain, decreased image shading, and smaller mechanical tolerances. Structural modifications were made to the electron gun which consisted of an improved triode section and a high-current, double-crossover section. Seven electron-gun dummy tubes and ten complete RBV's were fabricated and tested. (Author)
