Advanced Composite Applications for Spacecraft and Missiles. Volume I. Structural Development.

Abstract

This report describes the structural development of advanced composite materials for missile upper stage applications. The work includes design and analysis of a truss structure, a support beam structure, and two shell structures. Boron/epoxy, boron/ aluminum, and several graphite/epoxy composites were considered. Parametric tests of composite tubes, joints, columns, and stiffener plates and shapes are also included. Process and tool development for the production of every precise, light-gauge composite components is described. (Author-PL)
