Radar Prediction Study.
Abstract
There is a need for more rapid production of radar predictions with uniformly high quality, containing recent intelligence information. Ideally, a mechanized technique for such production with a data base that can be readily and rapidly updated is desired. Design concepts are described for a Radar Prediction Device (RPD) including a data update and maintenance capability through use of an interactive display. Hardware, software, and mixed implementations are presented and compared. The hardware approach provides more than an order of magnitude faster production rate than the software and mixed approaches, permitting a 'fly-around' capability in near-real-time. Use of the Advanced Cartographic System as the principal data base facility is discussed, and software requirements are outlined for that purpose, to produce minimum impact on standard ACS procedures and programs.
