Elastomer-to-Metal Adhesive Bonds - Adhesive Quality Determination by Ultrasonic Techniques.

Abstract

In this report, the field of ultrasonics is investigated as a possible candidate for inspecting the adhesive quality of bonds in elastomer/metal adhesive bonds. The nature of ultrasonics is examined and its outstanding parameters are defined. The elastomer-to-metal adhesive bond is analyzed and its failure modes are identified. The field of ultrasonic inspection is examined and its promising techniques explained, while the optimum ultrasonic parameters and techniques for the nondestructive examination of elastomer-to-metal adhesive bonds are identified.
