Nondestructive Testing of Pavements: Tests on Multiple-Wheel Heavy Gear Load Sections and Eglin and Hurlburt Airfields.

Abstract

The report presents results of a study to develop techniques using vibratory testing equipment for nondestructive airfield pavement evaluation. Testing was primarily concentrated on the multiple-wheel heavy gear load (MWHGL) flexible and rigid pavement test sections, but some additional tests were performed on prototype pavements at Eglin AFB, Florida, and Hurlburt Airfield, Florida. High-frequency steady-state vibration tests were used to measure shear wave velocity and dynamic moduli of elasticity were computed for each pavement layer. Low-frequency steady-state vibration tests were used to measure dynamic force and deflection on the pavement sections. (Author)
