Analytic Mathematical Models of Tactical Military Communications Channels.
Abstract
The progress reported here relates to channel modeling studies and methods of reliable communication under noisy conditions. The Markov modeling of Tropo channels has continued. An explicit way of determining the model coefficients has been derived. It makes use of both conditional and unconditional gap distributions. The present emphasis in code evaluation is in the determination of burst properties. Systematic procedures are sought to determine the influence of particular choice of polynomial in probability of undetected errors. The Viterbi decoding algorithm has been extended to channels with finite memory. Trade-offs between computational complexity and performance are being evaluated. Goal-directed modeling is investigated along two lines both include error-dependence considerations. (Author)
