Improved Aqua Lung.

Abstract

The report covers the evaluation of the Improved Aqua Lung to determine the suitability of theapparatus for use in the Naval service to depths of 200 feet at work rates equivalent to 0.85-knot swimming. This report describes the demand regulator in detail. The regulator was tested objectively by breathing machine and subjectively by depth runs with instrumentation for respiratory pressure, respiratory minute volume, and breathing rate. It was also tested subjectively by swimming pool runs with open-circuit scuba. Breathing machine and subjective depth runs are summarized as graphs of peak respiratory pressure, RMV, and RR against time. Subjective swimming test results are summarized narratively. (Author)
