Dynamics of Recoilless and Semirecoilless Weapons. Volume I. Recoilless Rifle.

Abstract

The objective of this program is to develop and document a computerized description of the recoil dynamics of (1) recoilless rifles and (2) restricted breech rocket launchers. The recoilless rifle program encompasses designs for shot start first, nozzle start first, and simultaneous nozzle and shot start. Eighteen input parameters are required. Values for these parameters may be systematically varied to produce the desired or required recoil dynamics. The restricted breech launcher program, requiring input values for 16 parameters, accepts all combinations of input values except those producing large plenum chamber pressures resulting in subsonic flow through the motor nozzle. The computer simulation, in each case, provides a time-dependent tabular output of the system recoil forces, counter-recoil forces, change in momentums, plenum chamber pressure, projectile (or rocket) velocity, and projectile (or rocket) travel. These computer simulations written in fortran iv source language for use with the cde 6600 computer system. (Author)
