Development of Fabrication Techniques for Borsic (trade name) - Aluminum Aircraft Structures.

Abstract

The objective of this program was to design, fabricate, and test a subscale wingbox representative of typical aircraft structure, using Borsic-aluminum composite material and employing low pressure bonding techniques. The program was composed of two phases. Phase I consisted of developing fabrication techniques and deriving test data from several proposed design elements representative of details of the final box. Phase II applied the developed fabrication techniques and design data to the final design and fabrication of the wingbox. Test data from the structural test of the design elements and wingbox as well as material property data for various Borsic-aluminum ply layups were included. (Author)
