Advanced Measurement Techniques Study for Digital Systems.
Abstract
The efforts were consistent with the contract purpose, viz., establishment of measurement procedures and limits for digitally modulated transmitters. Major emphasis during this time period was directed to (1) further development of the analysis approach for the overall system, (2) establishment of models for individual system components, and (3) generation of a framework model for the total system. Regarding efforts to further develop the overall systems analysis approach, specific procedures for calculating applicable values of the receiver degradation criterion are presented. These values are calculated at the receiver output and are a function of the various system constraints. Additionally, specific methods by which the degradation criterion will be used to yield transmitter limits are identified. Efforts to establish models for individual system components resulted in mathematical expressions representing receiver selectivity, transmitting antenna, propagation path, receiving antenna, and transmitter spectrum. The models involve transmitter power, transmitter bandwidth, frequency off-tuning between the transmitter and receiver, seperation distance, and receiver bandwidth as variables. The framework model of the total system was completed and will accept insertion of the necessary component models. Functioning of this framework model is demonstrated for an assumed Phase Shift Keying (PSK) system.
