Research in Nitropolymers and their Application to Solid Smokeless Propellants.

Abstract

This report presents the results of research on nitropolymers conducted in an effort to discover an improved material for use as a rocket propellant. The general progress of the work has shown that nitropolymers conforming to propellant specifications are not unattainable. Two nitropolymers were synthesized that exhibited excellent stability characteristics as measured by 65.5 C and 134.5 C surveillance tests and impact sensitivity tests. They confirmed the hypothesis that a high oxygen content is compatible with stability in nitropolymers.
