Study of Stabilizing Agents for New High Explosives.

Abstract

Since previous work had shown that the addition of one percent of carbazole to Pentolite improved its stability as measured by the 100 C. Vacuum Stability Test, but did not affect its sensitivity to initiation or brisance, it was recommended that additional tests be made to confirm the indicated stabilizing action of carbazole. Samples of Pentolite, Ednatol and Tetrytol with and without one percent of carbazole added were therefore placed in Surveillance at 65 C. This report covers the results obtained in Brisance, Sensitivity to Initiation, and 100 C. Vacuum Stability Tests of these explosives after being subjected to six months storage at 65 C.
