Bomb, Mark 77 Mod. 0, (Fire - 750 lb.) Hoisting Lug Test.

Abstract

A test of a hoisting lug for Bomb, Mark 77 Mod. 0, (Fire - 750 lb.) was performed to determine: (a) possible interference and ease of hoisting on available service type aircraft; and (b) if the hoisting lug will withstand a 3 g, or equivalent static load without permanent deformation. The completely assembled bomb with hoisting lug was fit-tested on the following type aircraft with no interference: F7F-3 wing racks, F4U-5 pylon rack, and AD-2 wing and center racks. The completely assembled bomb water filled, with hoisting lug was satisfactorily hoisted on the wing rack of an AD-2 using a Mark 8 Bomb Hoist; and fitted satisfactorily on an unmounted Aero 14A Bomb Rack. The hoisting lug withstood a static load test of 2400 lbs. without deformation.
