Abstract

2-METHYL-3-(2-METHYLPHENYL)-3,4-DIHYDROQUINAZOLINONE-(4) (METHAQUALONE, Dormutil) and 2-methyl-3-(2-ethylphenyl)-3,4-dihydroquinazolinone-(4) (ethinazone, aolan) were reduced at a dropping mercury electrode between pH 0 and 8, with the capture of two electrons per molecule. In the range of concentrations to 0.001 m the reduction leads mainly to the corresponding 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinazolinones-(4), and in addition the dimers of these compounds, attached at the N(1)/N(1) positions, occur at higher concentrations. The mechanism of the electrode reaction is discussed. The possibilities of quantitatively determining the compounds were investigated. (Author)
