Multichannel Sonar Recorder Design Problems and Alternatives.
Abstract
This study discusses the general arrangement of a recorder/reproducer in a sonar system for training purposes. The present day major recorder/reproducer problem is discussed. The characteristic of generalized underwater spectral signatures, the rates of sound attenuation underwater, and human ear response are related. Recording concepts, film and tape recording mediums, and recording methods are considered. A comparison is made between magnetic vs electro-optical recording and multiplexed wideband single track recording vs low frequency parallel track recording. A possible 450 track, 10 kHz bandpass parallel track electro-optical recorder/reproducer is proposed using optical fibers, light emitting diodes, PIN photo diodes and photographic recording film.
