Mk 78 20 mm Fuze Malfunction Investigation,

Abstract

The Mk 78 Mod 1 20mm Point Detonating Fuze (PDF) breakups, prematures, and separations of fuzes from projectiles occurred when 20mm Mk 106 high explosive-incendiary rounds were fired from the 20mm aircraft gun pod Mk 4 with the Mk 11 gun. This prompted an investigation of the cause of fuze malfunctions. Conclusions and recommendations are made for both fuze and gun.
