Auxiliary Devices in High Performance Aircraft Weapons System Training.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine a typical training program centered about the weapon system trainer (WST) for a high performance airplane and identify potential improvements in the form of new training methods and auxiliary training devices. Relevant information was acquired from operations and research publications and familiarization with Naval F-4 training programs and with commercial flight training practices. Crewmember task data and device applications information were consolidated to yield functional descriptions of five auxiliary devices recommended for improving the WST training program. The only current innovation in training methodology is in various forms of computer aided instruction (CAI). Applications of CAI, however, are not judged likely to be cost effective in the present context. (Author)
