SST Technology Follow-on Program-Phase I. Laboratory Analysis of the SST Directional Electric Command and Stability System Component Failure Effects.

Abstract

Results of laboratory tests performed to determine the component failure effects on the SST directional electric command and stability system (ECSS) are summarized. Two channels of breadboard electronics for the directional ECSS were developed and coupled into a hardware breadboard (mini rig) of the electric command (EC) servo. A simulated airframe was then used to determine component failure effects on the system. These were then separated into three categories. Results of laboratory test analyses indicate that the critical failure combinations are associated with the mode filters (loss of damping term) and loss of the EC servo position feedback command signal. Probability of these failure combinations was determined and a method proposed that would detect these failures for preflight and in-flight monitoring. (Author)
