High Speed 0.53 Micron Photomultiplier Tube.

Abstract

This report describes a program of work undertaken to develop a fast, high speed, photomultiplier tube for laser communications at 0.53 micron wavelength. A compact, low power tube was designed and fabricated using a silicon diode junction multiplier. Output pulse rise time of 0.2 nanosecond, and pulsewidth of 0.7 nanosecond at 10 percent of pulse height were obtained. Electron gain of 1000 was measured. Suggestions for further development of the device are also given. (Author)
