Kinetics and Mechanisms of Thermal Degradation of Polymers Using Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry for Continuous Gas Analysis.

Abstract

Research using mass spectrometric thermal analysis (MTA) to study the thermal degradation of various polymers has now been completed. An improved data processing system was developed, which was based on the use of analog magnetic tape, followed by computations with a hybrid computer system. MTA experiments were carried out for polyquinoxaline and for bis benzimidazo benzophenathroline ladder copolymers with quinoxaline, anthraquinone and dibenzofuran. The results were compared with each other and with earlier data. (Author)
