ASM IMU Electronics Development Program.
Abstract
This research and development effort is part of an Air Force program to develop a low-cost, small midcourse inertial guidance system for tactical air-to-ground weapons. Previous Air Force-sponsored related efforts include sled test evaluation of the Raytheon prototype Low Cost Platform (LCP II), followed by development directed toward cost reduction, design simplification, and size improvement of the inertial measurement unit (IMU) for the LCP III. The effort covered by this report concerns similar development on the IMU electronics for the LCP III, as well as integration and test of the complete platform. The final report discusses the developmental investigations conducted, provides a detailed description of the new platform, and includes results of the predelivery acceptance tests. Cost and reliability aspects are also discussed. This program, coupled with the previous IMU effort, has produced significant improvements in system cost, size, and reliability. (Author)
