The Candidate Families Methodology: Simulation, Cost, and Optimization Models with User's Manual. Volume III. Part IV. Optimization Model.
Abstract
This model was developed in support of the FAAS-85/Supplemental Effort, recently completed at RAC. Concurrent with the development of this Optimization Model were the developments of the Simulation and Cost Models. The arrays of alternative fleets which come from the simulation model, and the cost data resulting from the exercise of the Cost Model, serve as input for the optimization model. A description of these supporting models is reported in a separate section. This report is intended to serve as a user's manual for exercise of the optimization program. It includes a model definition, specific details for the use of the computer program implementing the model, and a reference guide to the computer program itself. Written with the needs of Army Staff Planners in mind, this exposition defines a particular problem structure for the cost optimization of fleets of vehicles within the Army. Once this structure is established the problem is merely that of finding the optimal cost solution from among the myriad of other possible solutions.
