Equipment Reliability-Test Analysis of Radio Set AN/ARC-144.

Abstract

The information presented in this report is a summarization of the activities and results of three tasks performed under this reliability program. These tasks included: (1) Review of Pertinent Documentation, (2) Test Program Monitoring, and (3) Cost of Ownership. Task 1 consisted of a critical analysis of pertinent documents and resulted in several recommendations for their improvement with citations of where conformance to specifications was either lacking or not explicit. The Task 2 activities included the presence of a BCL Monitor at RCA to observe and keep separate records of progress during the reliability demonstration test. Under Task 3 the cost of ownership for the AN/ARC-144 Command Radio Set and cost savings resulting from replacing the ARC-27 and ARC-34 radio sets with ARC-144 radio sets were estimated. In addition, life cycle costs for the ARC-144 radio set were computed for various procurement quantities, values of mean time between failure, average annual operating hours, and two life cycle periods. Computer Program Documentation for Cost Analysis in Accordance With AFLCM 66-18(C4), Chapter 15, was also prepared. Details of the results from a specific task may be found in the technical report for that task. (Author)
