Advanced Controls Technology

Abstract

Results of analytical studies and flight demonstrations have shown the potential of advanced controls technology to significantly improve aircraft performance. Through proper selection of control surface and sensor locations, the control system can be designed to: (1) reduce structural fatigue damage rate, (2) reduce turbulence induced loads, (3) increase flutter speed, (4) reduce accelerations within the crew and passenger compartments, (5) reduce wing loading during maneuvers, and (6) augment basic aircraft stability.
