Basic Circuit Modules.

Abstract

This report describes the progress through the third quarter of the Basic Circuit Modules Phase I program. The objective of this program is to produce a design plan for a modular electromagnetic interference measurement system. During this quarter, efforts have been concentrated in completing the block diagrams for the major subassemblies so that the modular packaging concept can be more clearly established. One section of the report discusses the LO techniques to be employed through all frequency ranges. Tuners for 1 MHz to 40 GHz frequency bands are examined in detail. The first and second IF block diagrams are presented along with a thorough analysis of spurious and dynamic range performance. The continued study of the EMI measurement techniques has produced some conclusions regarding the types of detector functions which are useful and the conditions under which they provide valid information. Some of the measurement techniques discussed include Average Voltage, Mean-Square Voltage, Auto-Correlation and Amplitude Distribution. A preliminary study of the Control System Design is presented. Packaging is still in the preliminary stages because of its dependence on module definition. The original overall size estimate for the system still appears feasible. A preliminary outline of the front panel, illustrating the controls required for operation, is presented as part of this report.
