Small Ships SHF Satcom Antenna (Phase I).

Abstract

The study, as defined by the specification, was directed toward the specific design of antennas capable of being installed high on a mast for various small ships. It was required that a minimum of three antenna configurations be studied in detail and that each of these be quantitatively evaluated in terms of - reliability, maintainability, cost, and performance. The complete antenna subsystem is divided into three groups. The Group I equipment, which was of primary interest in the study, is the mast mounted equipment, and may contain the following - the antenna proper, parametric amplifiers, mount, and down converter. The Group II equipment may contain assemblies which for convenience might be located at the base of the mast, and the Group III equipment is located below the deck.
