IROS Cost Study for the AN/AAS-18 Infrared Detecting Set.

Abstract

This report presents the results of a cost of ownership study on the AN/AAS-18 infrared detecting set. The average recurring annual cost was found to be $6160 per set with a mean-time-between-failure (MTBF) of 5.51 hours. A sensitivity analysis was performed to determine the effect of a reduction in failures on the cost of ownership. The analysis showed that if the MTBF could be increased to 50 hours or greater the annual cost would decrease to near $2000. The line replaceable units whose logistic support cost varied the most with MTBF were the recorder and the receiver. This study is a part of the reconnaissance Increased Reliability of Operational Systems (IROS) Program. (Author)
