Program to Estimate the Average Head-Recovery Coefficient of a Waterjet-Ducting Circuit from Inlet to Pump.
Abstract
A computer program is formulated to estimate the average head-recovery coefficient of a waterjet inlet-ducting circuit, based on empirical loss coefficients. The Head Loss Program is written in Extended FORTRAN language and is compatible with the CDC 6700 computer. Input data include component-loss coefficients, fluid parameters, and component dimensions. The form-loss coefficients are independent of Reynolds number. Output includes the head loss of individual components, the total head loss of an inlet-ducting circuit, and the average head-recovery coefficient of the circuit. The program can be modified to include additional ducting components and to be compatible with the Pratt and Whitney Performance Mapping Program of Joint Surface Effect Ship Program Office. Experimental pressure-loss coefficients of a 0.45-scale TUCUMCARI (PGH-2)-type waterjet inlet-ducting circuit are compared with Head-Loss Program results. The computed losses are 4 to 16 percent greater than the experimental results. For a full-scale TUCUMCARI-type ducting circuit, computer results indicate that the vaned elbow contributes more dynamic head loss than any other circuit component. (Author)
