Responsive Deployment Techniques Study (AFAR).

Abstract

A study was made of all phases of tactical deployment of an AFAR type radar to determine the problems and solutions associated with deployment, and to develop a plan for making the radar responsive to tactical deployment. The study plan contained the following steps: (1) Define tactical radar and support equipment; (2) Develop plan for responsive 'turn-on' of manufacturing and deployment; (3) Investigate radar hardware to determine ways to shorten manufacturing time; (4) Select most promising approach or approaches; (5) Develop scheme for using modular concept with tactical radar and support equipment; (6) Perform schedule tradeoff studies to shorten deployment time; (7) Investigate application of approach(es) to KMR installation--consider what portion of the radar can be used to verify modular deployment concept; (8) Determine schedule impact on 30 month program for delivery of an operational AFAR to KMR; (9) Develop budgetary cost impact on 30 month AFAR Program.
