Category II Evaluation of the C-5A Instrument Subsystem.

Abstract

The objective for the instrument subsystem testing was to determine if the instrument subsystems could meet the accuracy requirements of CP40002-9B and provide the crewmembers with necessary information during normal and abnormal flight conditions and during ground operations. This report contains the evaluation of three of the instrument subsystems; the Central Air Data Compter (CADC), the Energy Management Analog Computer (EMAC), and the Integral Weight and Balance System (IWBS). The CADC was within the accuracy specifications of the contract end item for airspeed, altitude, and true airspeed, but could not meet the accuracy specification for Mach number. The EMAC evaluated during Category II contained preliminary performance curves and could not meet contract end item accuracy specifications when compared to actual aircraft performance. The IWBS was evaluated and could not consistently meet the contract end items accuracy specifications for the various configurations of aircraft gross weight, center of gravity, and kneeling positions.
