Category II Evaluation of the C-5A Auxiliary Power Unit and Fuel Subsystems.

Abstract

Auxiliary power units could support preflight maintenance and aircrew operations during normal and isolated field operation with limited aerospace ground equipment. The Model GTCP165-7 APU 706 eliminated many problem areas experienced with other models and appeared to have improved overall reliability. APU operation was satisfactory on both JP-5 and 115/145 aviation gasoline as well as on JP-4. Starting characteristics were closely repeatable regardless of the type fuel used. Airstarts could be made up to 30,000 feet pressure altitude.
