The Application of Information Transfer Techniques for Solving the Internal Communication Requirements of an Advanced Manned Bomber. Volume I.

Abstract

Present day aircraft are plagued by the overwhelming quantity and bulk of transmission cable required to interconnect the various avionics systems on board. In addition, the number of signal formats and transmission techniques for information transfer within an integrated avionics system has constantly been increasing. As the complexity of avionics systems increases; so will the hardware and integration cost. The objective of the study effort described in this report is to provide an information transfer system which will handle all of the signal interconnects identified in the avionics suite synthesized for the AMB bomber aircraft, via a minimum number of dedicated transfer facilities with no degradation to signal quality or timeliness.
