Welded Permanent Fittings for Titanium Hydraulic Tubing.

Abstract

This report provides the results of qualification tests of in-place fusion-welded fittings for a Type III hydraulic system (-65 F to 450 F). It describes welding equipment and inspection methods, which include the evaluation of an isotope camera. The fitting material was titanium alloy (Ti) 6Al-4V annealed and the tubing Ti-3Al-2.5V cold worked and stress relieved (CWSR). The tests conducted on the welded joints were tensile, pressure impulse, and burst pressure. The tensile and burst pressure tests were conducted at room temperature and the pressure impulse tests at -65 F and 450 F. Fitting standards for 4150-psi pressure lines and 2075-psi return lines are included. Detail procedures for welding and radiographic inspection are included or referred to. (Author)
