MAIDS Study Language Processing Technology.

Abstract

This report contains an analysis of the current state of language processing technology. This analysis points out the significant technological gaps relating to MAIDS (Multipurpose Automatic Inspection and Diagnostic Systems) Information Dynamics and explores the relevant problem areas in some detail. The emphasis is on compiler technology as opposed to technology relevant to interpreters or macro processors since compilers are the principal kind of language processor to be used in the MAIDS Information Dynamics Subsystem. The analysis is devoted to discussion of the current state of compiler technology, the use of cross-compilers, the special problems which arise when the use of cross-compilers is integral to a system concept, the techniques for transferring language processors from one machine to another, and the relevance of current extensible language research to the MAIDS Information Dynamics Subsystem (MIDS).
