Development of IR Glass for Reconnaissance and Surveillance.

Abstract

An optical design study was made to determine the dispersion properties in chalcogenide glasses that are needed to combine with existing optical materials to achieve improved performance in infrared optical systems. The dispersion properties of six chalcogenide glass types were examined for both the 3 to 5 micrometers and the 8 to 13 micrometers wavelength regions. The refractive index versus wavelength was determined for six new glasses. Quantities of glass for two compositions were prepared for 5-inch diameter demonstration samples. (Author)
