Compass Preview Trade-Off Studies.

Abstract

A conceptual system design, consisting of an imagery viewer and peripheral supporting equipment, was developed. The Compass Preview design provides the capability to: (1) View photographic and data link transmitted imagery; (2) Vary the magnification of imagery over a wide range; (3) Electronically rectify an image; (4) Automatically mensurate lineal dimensions and target locations with direct readout; (5) Electronically recall and display stored imagery coincident with currently diplayed mission imagery; (6) View imagery in stereo; (7) Provide a high resolution copy of displayed annotated imagery for documentary use; (8) Enhance diplayed imagery; (9) Handle photo imagery with film widths varying from 35 mm to 9-1/2 inches; and (10) Modularly adapt new technological advances without major redesign. The program considered possible employment concepts and the interfacing characteristics of associated systems so as to develop a design that can be readily transformed from a concept to a prototype model for operational evaluation.
