Vehicle Intrusion Sensor.
Abstract
The objective of this program was to determine the feasibility of identifying various intruding vehicles by their ground pressure signature. Attainment of this objective required the development of a pressure sensor capable of providing enought of the peculiar vehicle signature characteristics to enable identification. The task of developing such a sensor capable of reliably measuring ground pressure of light-weight wheeled vehicles and rugged enough to withstand the forces imposed by heavy tracked vehicles proved to be difficult but instructive and is thoroughly documented in this report. After the sensor was satisfactorily developed, tests were then performed to produce the pressure signals required to obtain the data necessary to accomplish the primary objective of the investigation; namely, to determine the feasibility of identifying vehicles through their signatures.
