Computation of Backscatter for an Underwater Synchronous Scanning System.

Abstract

This report presents a simple method of predicting backscatter for synchronous scanning underwater imaging systems. Point spread or beam spread functions of the water path are used for the computation. Excellent agreement between computations and field measurements of backscatter have been obtained. The mathematical technique can be extended to predict backscatter for many other types of underwater imaging systems. (Author)
