Lithium Battery with Inorganic Electrolyte.

Abstract

Experimental cells containing lithium/tetracarbon monofluoride with phosphorus oxychloride; thionyl chloride-phosphorus oxychloride; or thionyl chloride as the solvent have exhibited much greater coulombic capacities than can be explained by the cathodic reduction of the fluorinated graphite. Discharge characteristics of cells using conventional cathode material are also reported. Lithium has been found to react with phosphorus oxychloride at elevated temperatures under an inert atmosphere. (Author)
