Iron Removal and Dechlorination of Water at Minuteman Launch Control Facilities.

Abstract

Evaluation of a fused diatomaceous earth filter for removing insoluble iron floc was made in the field and in the laboratory. It was shown that the filter could effectively remove iron down to concentrations below 0.1 mg/1. Activated carbon was evaluated for chlorine removal as a unit process to be used with the filter. Using the filter and the activated carbon provides adequate protection for electro-dialysis units installed at Minuteman launch control facilities. (Author)
