USAF Armament Laboratory Wind Tunnel Test Facility Instrumentation Modernization.

Abstract

The subsonic wind tunnel at the Air Force Armament Laboratory was modified to automate and centrally locate the controls and the monitor circuits. The purpose of the modification was to create laboratory conditions essential for acquiring accurate measurements of models in the wind tunnel and at the same time diminish the number of manual adjustments required to operate the system. As compared to the previous manual data-taking operations, the modified system (1) provides an immediate printout to facilitate any necessary corrective action, (2) improves test accuracy by eliminating meter reading errors, and (3) reduces test time and costs while producing a significant increase in data points per test.
