Results of Product Inspection of Titanium Samples Using P5F-2.5 Penetrant,

Abstract

If B-1 structure is designed to tolerate an initial flaw size smaller than 0.150 inch,. it is required that the flaws be detected to a 90 percent probability and 95 percent confidence level. The results of the 61 observations of flaws in the range of 0.025 to 0.050 inch length with two misses verifies to a 90 percent probability the P5F-2.5 penetrant system will find flaws in this range to a 95 percent confidence level. The P5F-2.5 penetrant system is capable of reliability detecting flaws 0.015 inch or greater using selected inspection personnel.
