Chemical, Physical and Mechanical Properties of Low Density Phosphate Ester Hydraulic Fluids

Abstract

Three low density phosphate ester fluid candidates, MLO-70-32, MLO- 70-62 and MLO-71-37, were characterized as to their physical and chemical properties. MLO-71-37 which exhibited the most acceptable characteristics was further evaluated for its reactions in simulated functional and system environments. MLO-71-37 was found to possess the most satisfactory overall properties and exhibited potential operational capability over a temperature range of -65 to 275 F. All three candidate fluids displayed a sensitivity to elastrometric materials with specific manufacturer and compound designations required for satisfactory performance.
