Evaluation of Eddy Current - Induced Magnetic Fields.

Abstract

Using a simple theoretical approach, a method has been formulated to determine the eddy current-induced magnetic fields (ECI magnetic fields) produced by metallic objects moved in the Earth's magnetic field. The method permits the calculation of the ECI magnetic field of objects having simple shapes and, with a little ingenuity, can be readily extended to more complex shapes. The basic theory establishes criteria by which materials can be selected and designs evaluated to yield a minimum ECI magnetic field. (Author)
